I am so excited to announce the #fcpaintsartistofthemonth for May Catherine of @keeplivingfaster If you already follow her you know without a doubt she is super talented. Facts: I started lettering in 2017, I remember I attended a workshop and saw that everyone found it SO easy, I really couldn’t even make the basic strokes, the ovals were the hardest for meI started practicing nonstop and fell in love with it. I study Graphic Design and Communication, hopefully I’ll get my bachelor’s degree next year In 2018 I made tons of workshops, I loved teaching and showing others lettering but after a year of teaching, I couldn’t see progress in my own work, I felt stuck and quit right after. Started focusing on improve and learn more things for me. When I was in high school I hated watercolors, I think it was mostly because teachers didn’t show us how to use them properly since the beginning but when I started using them for my lettering and thanks to some artists in YouTube, learned so many stuff and now I love them. Besides my obsession with art supplies, I have an obsession with plants. So I had to give the stencils by @thepaintboxletters another try. This time I chose a smaller brush and used less water. I thought I planned it out well until I got to the 3rd row. I am thinking I should have switched the side I started on. I was going left to right in each row but that resulted in the same color being right under the row above it. I then had to adjust the last row. I will not be defeated. I will try it again. Here is my week 1 piece for the May#alohakiwichallenge hosted by @alohakiwichallenge (@alohawatercolors & @stakiwicolours ) My limes need a bit of work but I a, very pleased with my pineapple. I pressed the tip of my brush flat on the paper to create the inner detail of the pineapple nubs/sections?? I tried to use only the colors but thought it needed a touch of yellow and green sparkle so added my Grass and Chicks colors from The Some Bunny Loves You collection available ...in my shop. I mixed dark roast and plumeria for the browns. I mixed plumeria and avocado and Aloha with plumeria and another blend of aloha, plumeria and avocado for the different greens. I had a really hard time capturing this. I also wasn’t sure I could find my light saber chop sticks I used the last two years( I rearranged the office during the first few months of lockdown 2020) so bought more on Amazon they didn’t have the same ones but these have 6 colors to pick from. So I thought I would take a moment and fill you in on how my handmade watercolor journey started. It all began in September of 2019 when I realized I could no longer get one of my favorite colors (Hesta in upper left swatch photo) so I thought maybe I could make bit myself. At this point I truly had no intention to sell my paint. After all there were already so many great makers out there. So I searched how to make watercolor and let me tell you the tutorials were nearly non ...existent. I found two YouTube videos. Ordered mica, made binder and started creating. Somewhere between the top left swatch photo and bottom left swatch photo(only about 2 days time) I found @stakiwicolours and her forum. Let me tell you her tutorial and guidance was so incredible. I created nearly 35 colors that first week(photo 2) and by 10/2 I had created nearly 60 total colors. Photo 3 shows my first 14 colors that were launched on 11/1/19. To be honest I didn’t expect the response to be much since as I said there were already so many makers out there. But I jumped in with the goal of selling 30 half pans per month. WOW was I completely blown away by your support. As of this post I have created nearly 400 colors( only about 150? have been released so far) I have 5 Amazon Brand Ambassadors @steinbargerstudio (who was one of my original testers) @byshannonlayne @carri_c_art @asklettering and @emazingartistry I really can’t thank you enough for all you do. I also have to thank @gofontyourself and @sabeldesigns for making awesome videos of my first release colors. Your continued support means the world to me. I am sure I am forgetting to thank someone but please know I am eternally grateful for all who have continued to support my passion. I don’t like showing my face much so I often revert to this cropped image that I actually like. I am a very self conscious introvert who loves purple, teal, reading, elephants, mermaids and dolphins. I am often heard telling people I must have been a Mermaid in a past life as I love the water and everything sparkly.
