Have you experienced mom-shaming or been quick to judge other moms harshly? This ISU research involving more than 500 mothers found many harbor harmful stereotypes. They’re actually not providing that supportive network, and in extreme cases would actually emotionally or physically harm them. Women face so much scrutiny and bias and discrimination in our society, and then we have this evidence that it’s not just men or childless people doing this to women. It’s actually mothers doing it to each other.

It’s a sad day when state government chooses to ignore federal law rather than comply with it. What a horrible example of scofflaw and disorder. The people of Iowa deserve better, marijuana activist Carl Olsen wrote in a court filing last week. Read more from columnist Adam Sullivan, At Liberty

Kaitlin Scott cherishes Mother’s Day and every day she has with her mom, even if her mom struggles to recognize her. Her mother has dementia, and after the pandemic took away one year of face-to-face time, they’re making up for precious lost time. I miss that person that nobody can replace. She’s the only one, and it’s gone. Even though she’s still here, I’ve mourned so much of her, losing her pieces at a time.

Volunteers will go door-to-door to check-in with residents in neighborhoods that sustained heavy damage in the Aug. 10 storm. This outreach is intended to help connect residents with available resources and support.
