Teaching a foundational course in Organizational Communication presents a number of challenges. It is the first exposure to the subject for many students. Consequently students have varied notions of what the course entails. Some students are required to take the course and may be taking it reluctantly. As a foundational course, instructors must cover a wide range of subjects but still ensure there is sufficient depth to prepare students for future study. Also, the content re...quires an explanation of relevant theory and these theories need to be explained so that an undergraduate can digest them and see their applications. Faculty who may have other areas of expertise are occasionally asked to teach the classsometimes on short notice. This webinar addresses these challenges. Recommendations will be presented for: dealing with students’ diverse understandings, preparing for teaching a broad course, and employing cases/exercises to deliver what can be complex content. Dr. Zaremba is the recipient of three excellence in teaching awards and has also received his alma mater’s Excellence in Education award. He is the author of Organizational Communication: Foundations for Collaboration (4th edition) and Sports Communication: Dimensions, Theory, Applications and Culture. Both are published by Kendall Hunt.
