WATERLOO SCHOOLS NAMES NEW SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS DIRECTOR Pending board approval, Akwi Nji has been named the new Director of School and Community Relations for Waterloo Schools effective July 1, 2021. Nji most recently served as the Director of Communications in the Cedar Rapids Community School District in Iowa. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and a Bachelor's Degree in English all from the University of Iowa. ... She has a professional background in nonprofit leadership, public education, journalism, and strategic communications. Her eleven years as a high school language arts teacher will also be beneficial in this position. After completing an extensive hiring process with staff, parents and community members, we are excited to have Ms. Nji join our team. She has varied experiences in and around communications and will use her outstanding creative skills to continue to share the amazing initiatives happening in our District. Her experience with successful social media campaigns and her deeply involved work with diversity, equity and inclusion will be beneficial for all in the Waterloo Schools as well as our community, said Dr. Jane Lindaman, Waterloo Schools superintendent. Nji replaces Tara Thomas in her new role.

Waterloo West Wahawk Wrestling teamed up with Warsaw Indiana to make 1 high school team and finished 2nd as a team in the bronze bracket at Iron Sharpens Iron Team Wrestling Camp

Wahawk senior Haley Christoffer was awarded the 2021 Shelly Brown Scholarship this week at West High. The $1000 annual scholarship pays tribute to Brown, a Wahawk softball stand out herself and longtime Waterloo educator who passed away from cancer in 2002. Christoffer will be attending Iowa State University in the fall.
